Flash Dog2009-11-10 01:10:42 “FLASH DOG”Nat Geo Wild hosts UK’s first exercise class for dogs! This weekend dog walkers were in for a surprise as they took their prized pets for a morning stroll. Instead of collars and warm coats it was leg warmers, bandanas and a desire to feel the music that were the order of the day as Nat Geo Wild’s ‘Flash Dog’, the UK’s first aerobics class for dogs, took place in Hyde Park! Hosted and created by TV channel Nat Geo Wild to celebrate the new series of ‘The Dog Whisperer’, this one-off class aimed to highlight one of the key issues of the series and one that affects millions of dogs around the country: obesity. According to research, over 50% of pets in the UK are overweight* and ‘Flash Dog’ aimed to raise awareness of the importance of exercising dogs with a range of aerobic activities certain to keep paws moving and tails wagging! The specially designed routine used treadmills as well as a uniquely designed choreographed work out. Jackie Rowberry, dog expert and trainer who designed the class with Nat Geo Wild comments, ‘I am thrilled that Nat Geo Wild approached me to hold an aerobics class for dogs. Obesity in dogs is a common problem and can lead to all sorts of health issues such as diabetes and arthritis and can even shorten a pet’s life expectancy by two years – that’s the equivalent of 15 human years.
